Meet Hip Hop Group "Little Stranger" from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Born and raised in Philly and crash-landed in Charleston, John and Kevin Shields are the minds behind the quirky indie hip-hop group Little Stranger. Performing as a duo, Little Stranger is a fresh hybrid of John’s singer-songwriter magnetism and Kevin’s hard hitting, in-your-face delivery. Stylistically reminiscent of Gorillaz and Twenty One Pilots, Little Stranger inhabits a relatively unexplored niche at this point in time. They’re all about originality, every song is a separate work unto itself with all the strangeness that their name implies. Though the band is relatively new, John and Kevin Shields bring years of experience to the table. With previous bands, they’ve played with names like Slightly Stoopid, Del the Funky Homosapien, Grace Potter, Papadosio, The Heavy Pets, and John Brown’s Body. Little Stranger was quickly recognized at home, named “Hip-Hop Act of the Year” in the 2016 Charleston City Paper Music Awards and listed jointly as one of “17 People to Watch in 2017” in ...

Conrad Benner documents Philadelphia's diverse street art scene

Conrad Benner, the Philadelphia native behind the six-year-old Streets Dept blog and a popular Instagram account , has turned a continued fascination with his city, deep connections to the street art community, and a great eye into a long-running document of a fertile street art scene. While New York often gets credit as the birthplace of graffiti and street art, Philadelphia, a city with a large population of students and a world-renowned city mural program, has both a huge contemporary art scene and a deep history of street art. Darryl McCray, or  Cornbread , who is considered one of the progenitors of street art, made his name tagging around the city in the late ‘60s, and even made the papers for writing “Cornbread Lives” on an elephant in the Philadelphia Zoo. Mistah Wilson : What's good wit' it! Thanks for coming thru for this exclusive interview with ThaWilsonBlock Magazine. How ya' been? Heartless : I've been good trying to stay focused. Thank you guys for having me! So our audience can gain a clear understanding of you as an artist, could you give us a quick background on yourself?  Heartless : I've been doing music seriously since 2009. I had a song called "Sit Back" feat G.Breeze on music choice. In 2010 I decided to switch my music to profanity free, after my pops listened to my underground album, and said it was too hardcore with all the profanity and I might not reach as many people, as well as music is a business and if you want to change it you have to be better. So I listened to him and for spiritual reasons I decided to grow my skills and see if I could keep my street life that I lived in my music without cursing. In 2012 I signed a record deal with Tate Music Group and released" Keys To Da Gam...
